The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 is all set to commence from March 23 in Chennai. Several players are likely to leave the tournament midway keeping the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in mind. England and Australia are the teams who have confirmed their players to not participate in the later stage of the tournament, while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also raised the concern about the workload management of the Indian players.

Team India is playing back-to-back cricket since November last year. First, they toured Australia and played four Test matches apart from three ODIs and T20Is. New Zealand tour was India’s next assignment, where they played five ODIs and three T20Is. Afterward, India host Australia for two T20Is and five ODIs. Now, 50 days of non-stop cricket in the IPL is likely to tire the Indian players badly before the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has mentioned that there is no such pressure on the team management to play Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya is all matches throughout the tournament. Both these players are expected to represent India at the World Cup, hence their physical fitness has to be top notch. Rohit has clearly said that players’ workload will be of utmost priority.

Talking to Mirror Now, Rohit quoted “I totally agree and I understand that every player has to care of their own workload. Depends on body to body also, everybody is not the same. And all of us, all the players who are in the reckoning have played a lot of cricket in the last 6 months whether its domestic cricket or international cricket. All of them have played a lot of cricket so individual discipline comes into play here.”

“I can’t speak of other franchise but Mumbai Indians have given us a free hand. If somebody has any issues with the body, they can be rested so there is no pressure on us to play Bumrah or Hardik in all games. It is on the captain to decide and the coach, we will decide and if someone is not feeling well, end of the story. If they are not feeling well they can’t play,” Rohit added.
