IPL 2020: KKR Loses A Crucial Bowler Due To His Shoulder Injury

The India Premier League (IPL) franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will now be dealing with a huge blow on Wednesday when pacer Harry Gurney got ruled out of IPL 2020 due to a shoulder injury, for which he will undergo surgery next month. The southpaw fast bowler made his IPL debut last year for KKR, picking 7 wickets from 8 matches for the two-time champions, who are yet to name a replacement for the English bowler.

Meanwhile, Gurney will also be missing out on the Vitality Blast T20 tournament in England. The 33-year-old plays for Nottinghamshire in the Vitality Blast. Explaining the same, Gurney said, “Having gone through the same frustrations as everyone this year in waiting for cricket to restart, I’m devastated to have to miss the Blast.”

He further added, “Some of the proudest moments in my career have been with Notts, and nothing quite compares to being out on the field at Trent Bridge competing for trophies with some of my best mates. To have that taken away for a year is tough.”

Gurney has been emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the Vitality Blast with 63 scalps in 3 seasons. He has so far played 10 ODIs and 6 T20Is for England, picking 11 and 3 wickets respectively.

Elaborating the same, Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores said, “Harry would improve any T20 side in the world, so it’s a blow to lose him for this year’s tournament. With the experience and expertise, he’s gained from a global white-ball career, he’s become a real leader in our limited-overs dressing room.”
