Mumbai Indians (MI) have finally managed to register their second win of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as they defeated Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 48 runs in the 13th match of the season. With the win, Mumbai has now reached the numero uno position in the IPL 2020 points table and the team will now look forward to carrying this momentum in the tournament.
After winning the toss, the KXIP skipper, KL Rahul invited MI to bat first. Initially, the Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma scored a scintillating half-century despite the team reeling at 21 for 2 by the end of 4 overs. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan then shared 64 runs for the third wicket before the latter departed.

While wickets were falling at regular intervals from the other end, Rohit didn’t give up before getting out in the 17th over. Later on, Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya emerged as the brothers of destruction as Mumbai finished on a fighting score of 191-4 in their 20 overs. In the last six over, MI smashed as many as 104 runs for losing just one wicket.
During the chase, KXIP started on a high note as Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul had smashed 33 runs in the first three overs itself. However, the joy didn’t latest long as Jasprit Bumrah was knocked out Agarwal in the 5th over, and later on, KXIP batsmen succumbed to great pressure as the first wicket fell down.

The story continued as the Punjab batsmen kept coming in and going back. Although Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran tried to save the sinking sink of Punjab as they added 41 runs for the 4th wicket but, eventually, Mumbai won the game by 48 runs as Punjab was bundled out for a meager total of 143-8.

Barring the game against RCB when Karun Nair scored 15 off 8 balls, he has been nothing but a failure of KXIP so far and his bad form continued against MI as well. He was dismissed on duck by Krunal Pandya.
