The Delhi Capitals (DC) all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis has played a belligerent knock in their opening game DC against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. DC was in all sorts of trouble after being asked to bat first before the Australian smashed a 20-ball fifty which helped his team to reach a competitive total of 157 for 8. However, KXIP couldn’t manage to win the nail-biting match despite Mayank Agarwal’s sturdy knock of 89 off just 60 deliveries as they scored just 2 runs in the super over.
Delhi was off to a poor start with Shikhar Dhawan (0) and Prithvi Shaw (5) departing for just 9 runs on the board. In the same over of Mohammed Shami 4 runs later, Shimron Hetmyer departed as well. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant made the effort of stopping the sinking of Delhi’s ship but struggled to get the runs. The young debutant Ravi Bishnoi got the priced wicket of Pant in the 14th over.

At one stage, Delhi was reeling at 96 for 6 in the 17th over and 150-mark was looking like a distant dream. However, Marcus Stoinis launched a stunning counterattack in the slog over as he helped the Delhi-based franchise to reach a total of 157. He shifted gears in the 18th over by hitting Chris Jordan for a four and a six.
In the 19th overs bowled by Sheldon Cottrell, Stoinis smashed three fours before smashing 30 runs off the final over bowled by Jordan. The right-handed batsman smashed three fours and two sixes in the 20th over to take Delhi to a fighting score total against all the odds.
Marcus Stoinis was eventually run out for 53 off just 21 balls. His knock contained seven fours and two sixes. Apart from him, Iyer (39) and Pant (31) played crucial knocks as well. For Kings XI Punjab, Mohammed Shami was the most successful bowler, picking up three wickets while conceding just 15 in his four overs. Jordan had a day to forget as he went wicketless while conceding 56 runs off four overs.

During the chase, KXIP didn’t had the best of the starts as they went down from 30/0 in the 5th over to 35/4 in a matter of 12 balls with KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Nicholas Pooran, and Glenn Maxwell losing their wickets. Mayank Agarwal tried to build a partnership with Sarfaraz Khan but the latter was dismissed by Axar Patel in the 10th over.
After that dismissal, Agarwal stitched a decent partnership of 46 runs for the 6th wicket with Krishnappa Gowtham before the latter’s dismissal in the 16th over. Mayank didn’t give up in after that as KXIp needed 42 runs in the last four over as he brought down the equation to 13 runs in the last over. However, he smashed 12 runs before getting out of the penultimate delivery of the final over delivered by Stoinis, who dismissed Jordan on the final delivery, and the game reached the super over.

Here is how Twitterati reacted to the nail-biting game:
Sadly not enough KXIP fans to outrage over the wrong short run. And other franchise fans want entertainment. So nobody cares. Imagine the outrage if it was RCB. 🥵
