IPL 2020: Stadium Overview – Rajasthan and Kolkata

Moving ahead in our Stadium overview series, today we take a look at the far apart East-West venues of India. As you would have understood from the headline, today we talk about the Sawai Mansingh Stadium and the iconic Eden Gardens will host matches for the upcoming IPL season.

Sawai Mansingh Stadium

With  30,000  capacity, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium is the home ground of the inaugural winners of the IPL,  Rajasthan Royals. After the 2 year ban, the Royals were back at their fortress under the leadership of Australian star Steve Smith. With Andrew McDonald as the head coach with Amol Muzumdar and India Sairaj Bahutule alongside him in the dugout, the Australian duo of Smith and Donald will look forward to this year’s IPL and set up a good performance.

Steve Smith has been in great form for his national team and will be hoping to bring his form in India while playing fr his IPL franchise. He has a fantastic team amongst his ranks with the likes of  Robin Uthappa, David Miller, Ben Stokes, Sanju Samson, Jos Butler and Ajinkya Rahane playing for the franchise.

The Royals have truly made the Sawai Mansingh Stadium as their fortress hardly losing any of their home matches at the venue. Steve Smith and the boys are expected to keep their home record intact and not lose any points on home turf.  They begin their home season with a match against Delhi Capitals on 5th April. The Royals play their first 2 home match at  Guwahati against Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders before returning back to Jaipur for the remainder of the season.

Eden Gardens Stadium

Established in 1864, the Eden Gardens has been one of the most iconic grounds of India. The 66,000 seater stadium acts as the home turf to the Shah Rukh Khan owned side. The Kolkata Knight Riders have a great team comprising players like Andre Russell, Kuldeep Yadav, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, Eoin Morgan, Nitish Rana and youngsters like Shubman Gill, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi. Lead by Dinesh Kartik with the South African all-rounder Jack Kallis as the head coach the 3-time winner will be looking to win the Indian Premier League once again. The Kolkata Knight Riders begin Delhi Capitals on April 3rd
