IPL 2020: Steve Smith Worried About His Contract Money?

The coronavirus outbreak has had an effect on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 as it was earlier which was supposed to start on March 29, has been suspended until April 15. With India likely to end its lockdown only after April 15, i\there are certain chances that the tournament will be get canceled this season. There is no guarantee if the situation will get better but fans would hope things get better.

Steve Smith plays for Rajasthan Royals in IPL

When it comes to the players, they seem to be very disappointed with the delay. Australian batsman Steve Smith, who plays for Rajasthan Royals spoke about the IPL and his quarantine time recently.

There’s a high possibility that IPL 2020 will not even take place, which will cost Smith of his $2.5 million contracts. He has a salary cap of INR 12 Crore with Royals and will also lead them this season. He was made captain of the team in the middle of the season last year.

Upon being asked how he is spending his quarantine time now, Smith said, “It’s a bit different. I am playing a bit of guitar. I have got a gym downstairs, so I am spending my time there. That’s pretty much it.”

When asked about the IPL, Smith said that he doesn’t think that the tournament will commence this season. But, the former Aussie captain also mentioned how he is keeping himself ready if in case the tournament happens.

During an interview with channel nine, Smith said, “It’s obviously not looking likely (the IPL will go ahead) at the moment. I think there might be some meetings over the next few days to discuss what the go is with it all. I’m just trying to stay physically and mentally fit and fresh and, if it goes ahead at some point, then great. And, if not, there’s plenty going on in the world at the moment. So just play it day by day.”
