Former Delhi Capitals skipper Gautam Gambhir has come up with a name who he feels should captain Delhi Capitals in the next edition of the Indian Premier League. DC finished the league stage of the IPL 2021 as table-toppers but failed to win in either qualifier to reach the final.
Rishabh Pant was leading the franchise for the first time and became the youngest skipper to lead a team in the playoff stage of the IPL. Initially, Shreyas Iyer was expected to captain DC but an untimely injury in his shoulder paved way for Pant to captain.

The team management stuck with Pant for the second leg as well despite Iyer being available.
Meanwhile, Gambhir feels Ravichandran Ashwin should captain DC in the upcoming season.
“Look, I’m one of his biggest fans and he’s one of the best spinners in the world. If you look at the overall line-up, it may be a bizarre call maybe and only I can think about this. But if I was there, I would like to make him the captain of Delhi Capitals next year,” said Gambhir.

Ashwin has prior experience of leading an IPL franchise. He was with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and led them in 2019.
Delhi Capitals will be having headaches going into the mega auction for the upcoming season of the IPL. Two new franchises are going to be included in the league and the uncertainty looms large on the retention policy as well. DC have several star players in Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Steve Smith, Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Kagiso Rabada, Shimron Hetmyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Anrich Nortje and Marcus Stoinis.
Only time will tell who will end up getting the reins of DC.
