The 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 will be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on 27th September at the Dubai International Cricket Ground. SRH has managed to win only 1 of their 9 matches so far, and are currently placed at the bottom of the points table. On the other hand, RR has pulled off 4 wins in their 9 matches so far, and standing second-last on the table currently.

In their last game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Sharjah, SRH suffered a close loss by 5 runs. Against PBKs while chasing 126 runs, SRH could put up 120 runs and lost the game by a narrow margin of 5 runs. On the other hand, RR Royals last played against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Abu Dhabi and they lost the game by 33 runs. Against Delhi Capitals’ 154 runs, the Royals could put up only 121 runs.

Khaleel Ahmed didn’t look 100 percent in the game against PBKS and Vijay Shankar and T Natarajan are still continuing to be in isolation after the latter tested COVID positive. With their star opener David Warner struggling for runs, SRH may bring in Jason Roy as an opener and strengthen their rather fragile middle order with Virat Singh or Priyam Garg. We may see a few overs from Abdul Samad and another part-time slower bowler if required.

Probable XI: David Warner/Jason Roy, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Kane Williamson (c), Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav/Virat Singh/Priyam Garg, Jason Holder, Abdul Samad, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed.

Chris Morris and Evin Lewis were unavailable during the game against DC due to niggles. Both may be available for the clash against SRH. One thing that worked for RR when the two sides met previously in India leg was RR’s tactic of playing out Rashid Khan and attacking the other bowlers. If Morris was rested for Shamsi in Abu Dhabi, he may return on wickets tending to assist pace.

Probable XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Liam Livingstone, Sanju Samson (c & wk), David Miller/Evin Lewis, Mahipal Lomror, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Tabraiz Shamsi/Chris Morris, Kartik Tyagi, Chetan Sakariya, Mustafizur Rahman.
