Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt has heaped praises on Venkatesh Iyer after his sensational performance during the second leg of the Indian Premier League 2021 in the UAE. He has said Venkatesh Iyer helped Kolkata Knight Riders to revive their campaign.
KKR had won only two matches in the first seven games in the Indian leg. However, things changed upside down when KKR turned up for the second leg in the UAE. They won five out of the seven matches before making their way to the final of the IPL 2021.
Salman Butt cited Venkatesh Iyer’s batting heroics were the reason behind rejuvenated KKR.
“If you have a look at KKR’s openers (while comparing them to their CSK counterparts), they batted outstandingly well. Gill was on the slower side but Venkatesh Iyer batted so beautifully. I reckon he is the find of the season for KKR and he is also one of the finds of IPL,” said Butt in his YouTube video.
“It was his first final, it was a pressure match and it was a big chase, and yet he scored a fifty and batted very well,” he further added.
Venkatesh Iyer scored 288 runs in 10 matches in the second leg where he notched up four fifties as well. His fine shot-making left everyone awestruck. He was handy with the ball as well and picked three wickets while conceding 8.12 runs per over.
KKR were suffering a lack of opening partnership during the first leg but Shubman Gill found a reliable partner in Iyer as the duo helped KKR by laying good platforms for other batsmen. Several experts termed Venkatesh Iyer as the find of the season and they can retain him for the upcoming cycle of the Indian Premier League.
