The two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be locking horns with the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 66th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on May 18 (Wednesday). While the Men in Purple won their previous contest against SRH, the new entrants lost their previous match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Speaking about their standings in the points table, LSG is currently placed third in the points table with eight wins in 13 matches. Meanwhile, KKR has witnessed a hot and cold tournament so far and they are placed in the sixth spot in the points table with six victories in 13 matches.

Earlier this season, KKR and LSG locked horns with each other and the latter had registered a dominating win by a huge margin of 75 runs owing to a half-century from Quinton de Kock and individual three-wicket hauls by Jason Holder and Avesh Khan.

In their last game, fit-again Umesh Yadav came in to replace Pat Cummins, whereas Sam Billings replaced Sheldon Jackson for the wicket-keeping position. That combination clicked together but will be forced to change with a Grade-III hamstring injury to Ajinkya Rahane. It could mean a return for Baba Indrajith will be coming back at the top of the order, or Jackson could be included as an opener in a left-field move.

Probable XI: Venkatesh Iyer, Baba Indrajith/Sheldon Jackson, Nitish Rana, Shreyas Iyer(c), Sam Billings(w), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee, Varun Chakravarthy

There’s pressure on LSG’s middle order to deliver. Rahul (469), Quinton de Kock (362) and Deepak Hooda (406) scored 61% of the total runs for LSG. There is a case for bringing in Manish Pandey and Evin Lewis in place of Ayush Badoni and Marcus Stoinis respectively.

Probable XI: Quinton de Kock(w), KL Rahul(c), Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Ayush Badoni/Manish Pandey, Marcus Stoinis/Evin Lewis, Jason Holder, Mohsin Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Dushmantha Chameera, Avesh Khan
