In the much-awaited Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be locking horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 27 (Friday). Both teams have played some excellent cricket throughout the tournament and are now just one step away from reaching the all-important final match of the tournament.

While RR suffered a dominating loss in the Qualifier 1 match against the new entrants Gujarat Titans (GT), the Red Army registered a brilliant win over the other new team Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the eliminator to seal their place in Qualifier 2. It is going to be an exciting contest with several star players including Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Virat Kohli, and Faf du Plessis among other players to play in the contest.

Both the teams have reached this stage of the tournament for quite a long period of time as RR only reached eliminator in 2018 and the story has been the same for RCB in the last couple of seasons. In the 27 meetings between the two sides in IPL so far, RCB is leading the charts 13-11 against RR in the head-to-head battles. In the last 5 meetings, however, it’s 4-1 in favor of RCB. Earlier this season, both the teams have locked horns with each other twice and have registered one win apiece.

Ahead of the key encounter, we take a look at the three-player matchups to watch out for.

#1 Sanju Samson vs Wanindu Hasaranga

RCB tweaker Wanindu Hasaranga has dismissed Sanju Samson in five of their six clashes in T20 cricket. RR skipper walks into the game on the back of a fluent 40-run knock against the Gujarat Titans. RCB has been one of the most successful bowling units in the mid-innings in the majority of their IPL 2022 matches, and much of that success can be attributed to Hasaranga and Harshal Patel operating in tandem.

#2 Yuzvendra Chahal vs Dinesh Karthik

The wily wolf of RR will be facing the roaring lion of RCB. Yuzvendra Chahal has a good bag of tricks and Maxwell can send the ball to the far corners of the stadium. But he has a flow, the Australian does not like to be tied down. If Chahal manages to exploit that weakness and force Maxwell into a mistake then RR can score a big point. Taking Maxwell out of the way can add pressure on other batters.

#3 Faf du Plessis vs Trent Boult

It’s been a rather quiet IPL 2022 for Faf du Plessis. While he has had some knocks that stand out, he’s largely failed to do much against the seamers who have managed to nick him off. He was dismissed for a duck in the previous match against Lucknow and will be keen to make the changes. However, he will be up against the nippy pace and accurate lengths of Trent Boult — the Royals’ third-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets from 14 matches.
