Chennai Super Kings wrote their name in history books as they won the record-fifth IPL trophy by defeating Gujarat Titans in the summit clash of the 16th edition of the tournament as well. With this, they also equalled the trophy number with MUmbai Indians as well. The game went down a position when CSK needed 10 runs to win off the final two deliveries and a six and a four from Ravindra Jadeja under pressure, helped the MS Dhoni-led CSK lift their fifth title as well.
Meanwhile, when everyone was celebrating the victory, their pace spearhead Deepak Chahar got his jersey signed by all players of the camp as well. As he approached his captain Dhoni and requested him to sign it, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter refused to do so and walked started walking away as well. But Chahar was adamant about getting the autograph and eventually convinced his skipper to do so.
After the win, Deepak Chahar said: “Every time we had a discussion, he (Rayudu) kept telling me that I am going to win the final. The belief that he has is unbelievable. When you are playing, you just want to contribute. It was a simple plan. We knew we have to perform, even if it was just one game. We have to contribute to the team to win the final.”
Stephen Fleming said: “We have like 20-odd players and 15 coaching staff. It’s a caravan of people but at the end of the day, you’re all just sitting and watching helplessly. (On developing players) He’s (Pathirana) been massive. We have been a little bit short in the bowling department so Tushar fronted up. We have enough talent there with Chahar, Simarjeet and a few others. With Pathirana, the backend all of a sudden became a weapon for us.”
