The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction has taken place on November 24 and 25, 2024 at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The two-day mega auction – which takes place once every three years – will see some renowned players go under the hammer as well, including Rishabh Pant, Mitchell Starc, KL Rahul, Jos Buttler and to name a few.
The 10 IPL franchises will take part in the auction, where a total of 577 players enter the bidding process as well. Among them, 367 will be Indian, while 210 are overseas as well. Moreover, each IPL team must have at least 18 players in their roster at the end of the auction as well.
Here are the players Gujarat Titans retained before the mega auction.
Before Auction
Retained Players: Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan
GT: 69 crore – Remaining slots – 20, Overseas 7
During Auction
Kagiso Rabada: The SA pacer had a base price of INR 2 crore. RCB started the bidding for Rabada and soon GT joined. The bid quickly crossed 5 crores. MI entered the bidding with 5.25 crore and went to 8.25 crore. But RCB returned with 8.50 crore. While PBKS had an option to RTM, they didn’t use that for Rabada. And, GT acquired Kagiso Rabada for 10.75 crore.
Jos Buttler: England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler had a base price of 2 crore. His previous team RR opened the bidding and GT joined the bidding soon as well and the bid went past 8 crore. However, both teams continued to bid aggressively. And, he was eventually sold to GT for 15.75 crore.
