The BCCI has officially informed IPL franchises that the upcoming 2025 mega auction will feature two sets of marquee players, scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. This structure is a shift from the 2022 mega auction, which had only one marquee list, bringing back the two-tiered marquee setup last seen in 2014 and 2018.
Each marquee list will include 8–9 top players, allowing franchises to bid on elite talent early in the auction process. Expectations are high for big names in these marquee lists, with prominent players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mitchell Starc, and Jos Buttler likely to be included, as per reports from Cricbuzz.

Each marquee player has set a base price of INR 2 crore. With these top-tier players expected to attract significant bids, it’s projected that teams could allocate around 30-50% of their auction purse within the first two marquee rounds to secure major stars for their squads.

The BCCI has not yet revealed the specific order of marquee players, though it’s expected soon. Of the 1,574 players initially registered for the auction, 1,165 are Indian and 409 are from overseas. Interestingly, the BCCI has invited franchises to nominate additional players for consideration in the marquee lists, with a submission deadline of November 12.
