As the IPL 2025 season approaches, reports suggest that a significant change is on the horizon: the adoption of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct regulations for all players. This move marks a departure from the IPL’s previously independent Code of Conduct and reflects an effort to align the tournament’s disciplinary framework with global cricketing standards.
The decision reportedly emerged during a recent Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) general council meeting, where pivotal topics like the Women’s Premier League (WPL), IPL 2025, and the Champions Trophy were also discussed.
An IPL Governing Council member, quoted by News18, confirmed the change: “From now on, the ICC’s sanctioned penalties will be imposed for Level 1, 2, or 3 offenses. Until now, IPL had its own Code of Conduct, but going forward, playing conditions will align with ICC T20I regulations.”

The move comes after IPL 2024 witnessed numerous Code of Conduct violations, with 10 offenses registered during the tournament. Players like Tim David, Kieron Pollard, Virat Kohli, Sam Curran, Rasikh Salam Dar, and Ishan Kishan committed Level 1 offenses in various games. The updated regulations may lead to stricter enforcement and potentially prevent similar incidents in IPL 2025.
