Delhi Capitals (DC) are rapidly running out of time in IPL 2026, and their biggest concern is that their home ground has become more of a problem than an advantage. After winning their opening match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, DC have suffered four consecutive defeats at home under completely different pitch conditions, leaving their playoff hopes hanging by a thread. They now face a confident Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side that has revived its season with three straight victories after enduring a miserable five-match losing streak earlier in the tournament.

Despite the contrasting momentum, both teams enter this clash in virtual must-win territory. KKR still have five league matches remaining, but sitting in eighth place means there is little room for mistakes. Delhi’s situation is equally concerning. Currently seventh on the table and having already played an extra game, the Capitals realistically need victories in all their remaining matches to stay alive in the playoff race.
Inconsistency has defined DC’s campaign. The constantly changing nature of the Arun Jaitley Stadium surfaces has badly hurt the side. On one occasion, they failed to defend a massive 264 against the Punjab Kings on a batting-friendly wicket. In the very next home fixture, their batting collapsed for just 75 on a seam-friendly pitch. Later, on a slower turning surface, another top-order failure restricted them to a below-par total once again.

The constant reshuffling of the batting order has only increased the uncertainty. KL Rahul has been one of the few reliable performers, while the bowling attack has struggled throughout the season. Much of the focus has fallen on Kuldeep Yadav, who has endured a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign with an economy rate above 10. Meanwhile, captain Axar Patel has carried much of the bowling responsibility with nine wickets in 10 matches.
KKR, though, have concerns of their own, particularly with the inconsistency of its top order. However, Varun Chakaravarthy’s return to form and Rinku Singh’s steady performances have played a huge role in their resurgence.
Pitch No. 6, the same surface used during DC’s 264-run game earlier this season, is expected to produce another high-scoring contest. Historically, KKR also hold the upper hand in this rivalry, leading DC 19-15 overall and 6-5 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Delhi Capitals (DC)

Delhi Capitals continue to closely monitor the fitness of Mitchell Starc, whose absence has been one of the biggest talking points of their IPL 2026 campaign. The Australian fast bowler recently confirmed that he is recovering from shoulder and elbow injuries suffered during the 2025-26 Ashes series. Starc also apologised to the franchise and fans for missing the early phase of the tournament and expressed hope of joining the squad soon. However, DC are yet to announce an official return date for the left-arm quick.
