There has been almost nothing to separate Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) throughout IPL 2026. In the end, net run rate was the only factor that separated the two teams on the points table, underlining just how evenly matched they have been this season. Both franchises have established themselves as two of the most consistent teams in the IPL over the last five years. They each boast impressive win percentages, multiple playoff appearances and title-winning memories in Ahmedabad.

Their head-to-head rivalry has also remained perfectly balanced, with both teams winning four matches each, including one victory apiece during the league stage this season. Yet despite their regular presence in the playoffs, Tuesday’s Qualifier 1 clash in Dharamsala will mark the first-ever postseason meeting between the two sides. If the IPL playoffs are designed to showcase the tournament’s best teams, this contest fits the occasion perfectly. However, while their results may look similar on paper, the two teams have built success in very different ways.

RCB represents the modern T20 blueprint, built around aggressive batting depth, flexibility, and finishing power throughout the lineup. Even in pressure situations, they continue to find solutions, whether through impactful cameos from lower-order batters or late hitting from experienced names like Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, rely more heavily on the brilliance of their top-order core featuring Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler. Their batting may not have the same depth as RCB’s, but the consistency and control provided by that trio have carried GT throughout the campaign.

Where Gujarat could hold a slight advantage is in the quality and variety of their bowling attack. Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj could become dangerous if Dharamsala offers swing early on, while Jason Holder and Prasidh Krishna bring extra bounce and hard-length pressure into play. In the middle overs, Rashid Khan remains one of the most reliable match-winners in T20 cricket.

Still, RCB’s bowling attack has quietly played a major role in their rise this season. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood have delivered control and wickets with the new ball, while Krunal Pandya has provided valuable balance and experience through the middle overs. Interestingly, every previous meeting between RCB and GT has been won by the side batting second. With Dharamsala traditionally favouring chasing teams under lights, the toss could once again play an important role in what promises to be one of the biggest clashes of IPL 2026.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have suffered a setback ahead of IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 after Jacob Bethell was ruled out of the playoffs with a finger injury. His absence has increased speculation around the possible return of Phil Salt, who has missed a significant part of the second half of the season due to a finger problem. RCB captain Rajat Patidar remained cautious while speaking about Salt’s availability ahead of the clash against the Gujarat Titans.

A major battle to watch in the playoff clash will be between RCB pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Gujarat’s powerful top order featuring Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler. Bhuvneshwar has an outstanding T20 record against all three batters and dismissed the entire trio during their previous meeting this season.

Probable XII: Venkatesh Iyer, Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (c), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rasikh Salam Dar, Josh Hazlewood, Suyash Sharma/Jacob Duffy

Gujarat Titans have reported no fresh injury concerns ahead of the playoffs. GT are also expected to continue targeting Patidar with aggressive short-pitched bowling, a strategy that troubled the RCB skipper during their Ahmedabad clash earlier this season. With Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj likely to attack through both the Powerplay and middle overs, GT’s pace attack could once again play a decisive role.

Probable XII: Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Washington Sundar, Jason Holder, Rahul Tewatia, Nishant Sindhu, Rashid Khan, Arshad Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna
