On Saturday, the BCCI planned a meeting with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners in order to discuss the option of conducting a curtailed season in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that has led to the event being suspended by a fortnight. Earlier this week, the BCCI suspended the 13th edition of the IPL till April 15 and also called off the ODI series against South Africa.
Talking about the same, one of the sources of PTI in BCCI said, “There were six to seven options discussed during the meeting between team owners and BCCI including a curtailed IPL.” The source also confirmed that shifting the tournament abroad was not discussed at all in the meeting.

In India, there have been two deaths and more than 80 positive COVID-19 cases, resulting in a government advising the fans to avoid mass gatherings like going to watch any sporting event. On the other hand, COVID-19 has resulted in more than 5,000 deaths globally.
Talking about the IPL, Kings XI Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia said: “BCCI, IPL and (official broadcaster) Star (Sports) are clear that we are not looking at a financial loss. Nothing can be confirmed as of now, as the board and the owners will access the situation after a few weeks and take a final decision and hopefully, the cases will reduce in the near future. “

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal said, “We are committed to IPL and want it to happen but in today’s meeting we have decided to wait and watch the situation and how it goes in the next few days, later on, decide anything concrete. Today’s meeting was just to keep the owners posted about the current developments. As things evolve over time, BCCI will call for another meeting.”
