On Tuesday, the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council Chairman Brijesh Patel has confirmed that a council meeting would be taking place in a week or so in order to finalize the schedule of the tournament. He has also said that the Board of Cricket in Control for India (BCCI) would be seeking permission from the government to go ahead with the 13th edition of the tournament.
During a recent chat with ANI, Patel said, “The governing council meeting is expected in 7-10 days time. There will be discussions on the scheduling of the tournament and we will also look at the operational aspect. We will continue to look at the coronavirus situation till September then we will decide whether we host the tournament in India or UAE. We have to take the permission of the government as it is mandatory.”

On Monday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has finally decided to postpone the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. During the meeting of the IBC Board (the commercial subsidiary of the ICC), windows for the next three ICC men’s events have also been finalized as it will provide the global body with the possible opportunity over the next three years to recover the losses incurred due to the coronavirus.
The IPL 2020 edition was originally scheduled to commence on March 29 this year, but the BCCI postponed it until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, there were a plethora of speculations that cash-rich will finally take place if the T20 World Cup gets postponed. With the ICC event being postponed, the BCCI can be expected to give a green signal to the money-spinning league in the September-November window.

The coronavirus cases in India have been increasing at a brisk rate so as of now it is not known whether the tournament will be played in India or outside the country. UAE has expected to be the first choice for hosting the tournament, however, the BCCI is yet to clarify as to where they are looking to host the tournament outside India.
