The IPL has reportedly issued a fresh warning to players, support staff and team officials over the use of smart glasses, advanced sunglasses and other wearable communication devices during the tournament. The move comes after the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) alerted the BCCI about companies attempting to market such devices to individuals associated with the Indian Premier League.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the ACSU informed the board that modern smart eyewear can stream live video, send text messages, and make audio or video calls via Wi-Fi and mobile data connections. The growing sophistication of wearable technology has raised concerns within the IPL governing body over possible misuse during live matches.
“With wearable technology becoming more sophisticated and concerns growing over covert communication methods, the ACSU’s latest crackdown underlines the league’s attempt to stay ahead of evolving integrity risks,” a source told the publication.

The latest advisory comes at a time when the IPL is already facing increased scrutiny over protocol breaches and conduct-related controversies. Earlier this month, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia sent an eight-page directive to all 10 IPL franchises highlighting several incidents involving players, support staff and franchise officials during the ongoing season.

“It has come to the attention of the BCCI that certain incidents of misconduct and protocol violation have occurred involving players and support staff,” Devajit Saikia wrote in the communication.
He further warned that such incidents could damage the reputations of both the IPL and the franchises and create serious legal and security concerns.

The issue of unauthorised device usage had already surfaced in IPL 2026, when a Rajasthan Royals manager was seen using a mobile phone inside the dugout during a live match, sitting beside young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The official was later penalised by the BCCI following the controversy.
