The Indian U19 all-rounder, Rajvardhan Hangargekar has been accused of committing age-fudging by Maharashtra’s Commissioner of Sports and Youth Department, Omprakash Bakoria. Hangargekar was one of the crucial cogs in India’s U-19 World Cup’s winning campaign in the West Indies recently. Following his performance there, he bagged himself an invaluable IPL contract with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
However, it could all go to waste if a player like Rajvardhan Hangargekar is found guilty of having fudged with his age. According to the reports in Saamana newspaper, Bakoria, an IAS officer, has written a formal letter to the BCCI which also includes evidence against Hangargekar.

As per the letter, Hangargekar is actually 21 years old. He was a student of Terna Public School and during readmission in 8th class, his birth date was changed from January 10, 2001, to November 10, 2002.
As a result, he became eligible to play in the U-19 World Cup. The report also revealed that Bakoria has gotten the backing of Dharashiv Chief Executive Officer, Rahul Gupta.
Previously, a similar situation was dealt with by the BCCI in a harsh manner. A player from Kashmir by the name of Rasikh Salam Dar received a 2-year ban from the BCCI after he was guilty of committing age-fudging.

He was bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2019 auction and also made his debut. But in June 2019, the BCCI found evidence that he had meddled with the birth certificate and handed him a 2-year ban. Rasikh was recently bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
