Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma made sure they did not miss India’s first ODI against the West Indies, despite being thousands of kilometres away from home. The two batters are currently in Nagoya, Japan, with India’s squad for the Asian Games 2026 cricket tournament, but that did not stop them from keeping a close eye on the action in Thiruvananthapuram.
Kishan and Abhishek were spotted sharing their reactions to the match through an Instagram story on Sunday, September 27. With the time difference making it difficult to follow the game live from Japan, the duo still found a way to stay connected with India’s ODI series opener at the Greenfield International Stadium.
The West Indies posted 295/7 in their first innings, putting India under pressure after a strong start. Openers John Campbell and Justin Greaves produced a century partnership before Campbell was dismissed. Greaves continued his impressive innings and registered his maiden ODI century, scoring 101 off 108 deliveries. Amir Jangoo also made a valuable contribution with a half-century towards the end of the innings.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler in the first innings. The left-arm wrist-spinner broke the opening partnership by dismissing Campbell before continuing to trouble the West Indies middle order. Kuldeep finished with excellent figures of 4/40 from his 10 overs, including a maiden, at an economy rate of 4.00.

Meanwhile, Kishan and Abhishek have been preparing for India’s Asian Games campaign in Japan. The pair were recently seen together at a restaurant in Tokyo, with a picture of their outing circulating on social media.
Both batters also entered the tournament with impressive T20I credentials. Kishan was ranked No. 1 in the ICC T20I batting rankings with 904 points, while Abhishek followed closely at No. 2 with 893 points.

Abhishek also arrived in Japan in strong form after scoring 82, 39 and 108 during India’s 3-0 T20I series win over Afghanistan in New Delhi. His century came in the final match. India’s Asian Games quarterfinal against Afghanistan is scheduled for September 28 in Nagoya, marking the next assignment for Kishan and Abhishek.
