Piyush Chawla is having a fine campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The veteran spinner has become an indispensable part of the Mumbai Indians’ camp. And on Saturday (April 22), he proved his worth again by taking two big wickets inside an over in the ongoing game against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium.
In the 10th over, Piyush Chawla dismissed two set batsmen to put Mumbai Indians on top. He first dismissed the dangerous Liam Livingstone to leave Punjab Kings reeling at 82 for 3. On the second ball of the over, Livingstone charged down the track to try and play a big shot but was completely outfoxed by the senior spinner.
Seeing Livingstone’s intentions, Piyush Chawla fired a wide down the leg side. The England batsman did try to put his pad onto the ball and prevent a stumping but was beaten by the pace. Ishan Kishan did a fine job behind the stumps. He collected the ball cleanly before dislodging the bails in a flash to sent back Livingstone.
The right-handed batsman departed after scoring 10 runs off 12 balls. And Punjab Kings could add only one more run to their score before Piyush Chawla struck again. On the fourth ball of the over, the leg-spinner accounted for Atharva Taide’s wicket to reduce Punjab to 83 for 4. Taide was bowled by Chawla after scoring 29 off 17 balls.
Talking about the game, Punjab Kings were on 140 for 4 in the 16th over at the time of writing this report. The Punjab-based outfit would be desperate to win the ongoing game and bring their campaign back on track after losing 2 of their last 3 games.
