India’s T20 World Cup hero Ishan Kishan received a grand welcome when he arrived in Patna following India’s triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. A large number of fans gathered at the airport to catch a glimpse of the wicketkeeper-batter, celebrating his contribution to India’s title-winning run. Media personnel were also present to interact with the 27-year-old, who played a key role in the tournament.

However, the celebratory atmosphere briefly turned tense when Kishan was asked about comments made by former India cricketer Kirti Azad regarding the T20 World Cup trophy being taken to a temple after India’s victory. Azad, who is also a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team led by Kapil Dev, had earlier shared his views on social media, stating that sport should remain above religion or caste.

In a post on X, Kirti Azad criticised the situation while recalling the diversity of the historic 1983 squad. His comments quickly attracted widespread attention online and sparked debate among cricket fans.

When reporters in Patna asked Kishan to react to Azad’s remarks, the left-handed batter appeared visibly frustrated. Responding candidly, Kishan suggested that the focus should remain on India’s achievement rather than controversies.

“We have won such a wonderful World Cup. You should ask good questions about that. What should I say about what Kirti Azad said?” Ishan Kishan responded while speaking to reporters.

The Indian star further urged journalists to focus on the team’s success and the emotions surrounding the victory rather than unrelated discussions. When another reporter asked him how much he enjoyed the World Cup triumph, Kishan responded with a smile, saying that was the kind of question he expected.
