India opener Ishan Kishan has climbed to the summit of the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, ending teammate Abhishek Sharma’s remarkable 12-month reign as the world’s No. 1 batter. The latest rankings update, released after the India-Ireland T20I series, marks the first time Kishan has reached the top spot in his international career, while Abhishek drops to second.

Kishan’s rise has been built on a sensational return to international cricket earlier this year. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter played a pivotal role in India’s triumphant 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign, amassing 317 runs in nine innings at a blistering strike rate of 193.29. His fearless approach at the top of the order and ability to dominate bowlers in powerplays have now earned him the highest individual honour in T20I batting.
With this achievement, Kishan becomes only the fourth Indian batter to occupy the No. 1 position in the ICC T20I rankings after Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Abhishek Sharma. Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan remains third, while England’s Phil Salt and Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka complete the top five.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has slipped one place to No. 8 in the latest rankings. The former India T20I captain, who led the team to World Cup glory earlier this year, has endured a difficult phase, losing both his leadership role and his place in the national squad following an extended dip in form.

Among the bowlers, Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan continues to lead the ICC T20I rankings. Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed has moved up to second, pushing India’s Varun Chakaravarthy down to third despite the spinner not featuring in a T20I since the World Cup final. Jasprit Bumrah has dropped to sixth, while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel remain unchanged at No. 16 and No. 19 respectively.

India also had reason to celebrate in the all-rounders’ rankings, with Shivam Dube climbing three places to seventh after consistent performances. The latest ICC rankings underline India’s continued dominance in the shortest format, with multiple players featuring prominently across batting, bowling and all-rounder categories.
