India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan showcased his excellent fielding skills by taking a spectacular catch to dismiss dangerous New Zealand opener Finn Allen in the fifth and final T20I at Seddon Park. The Men in Blue were defending a total of 191 when Kishan produced a crucial moment in the field, giving India an early breakthrough.

Arshdeep Singh provided the initial breakthrough in his very first over. On the third delivery, the left-arm pacer bowled a short-of-length delivery that generated some uneven bounce. Allen attempted to play an aggressive pull shot but failed to get the desired connection, slicing the ball high into the air.

Positioned at mid-wicket, Kishan immediately ran forward to complete the catch. Although the ball briefly popped out of his hands as he fell towards the ground, the Indian wicketkeeper showed excellent awareness and managed to hold on to it. Allen had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring just two runs off three deliveries.

The dismissal was particularly important for India, considering they were defending a total below 200 against an aggressive New Zealand batting lineup. Meanwhile, the wicket also added to Arshdeep’s impressive T20I record, taking his tally to 151 wickets in the format.

Earlier in the match, Ishan Kishan played a crucial role in helping India post a competitive total of 191/8. The left-handed batter registered his 14th T20I half-century, reaching the milestone in just 28 deliveries.

He eventually scored 61 runs off 32 balls, striking five boundaries and five sixes at an impressive strike rate of 190.62.

Kishan’s contribution was particularly valuable after India lost both openers, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, during the powerplay. The wicketkeeper-batter took responsibility for rebuilding the innings while maintaining an aggressive scoring rate.

He also reached the significant milestone of 2,000 T20I runs during his innings, becoming the third-fastest Indian batter to achieve the feat in terms of balls faced. He took 1,345 deliveries, behind Abhishek Sharma (1,024) and Suryakumar Yadav (1,164). Despite missing two matches in the series due to injury, Kishan finished his campaign on an impressive note with an all-round contribution.
