Ishan Kishan is all geared up to make a comeback into the domestic circuit, where he will feature for Jharkhand in the prestigious Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament that gets underway on August 15 in Chennai. The move follows after the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the men’s senior selection committee took a strong stance that players needed to play domestic tournaments for their respective states.
Kishan, hence, quite keen to make a place back in the Indian side, feels that this tournament is an ideal platform to show everyone that he is good enough and ready for the coming season. Yes, Ishan Kishan is going to turn out for Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu tournament,” a source privy to the development confirmed.

It is one of the more prestigious tournaments where all top red-ball teams come and play. The conditions are challenging and it’s the right way to prepare yourself for the long domestic grind ahead. “The BCCI will continue to monitor player availability and participation in the upcoming domestic cricket season, 2024-25,” read the media advisory. Ishan Kishan, who took a break during India’s tour of South Africa last year, had spent some time out of action. He missed the Ranji Trophy, was overlooked for the home Tests against England, and only made his comeback into action just before the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.

So, essentially, his absence from the game cost him his central contract and place in the senior team. The upcoming domestic tournaments give him the opportunity to make a comeback of sorts.
Though Jharkhand Cricket Association has not officially revealed Kishan’s plans for the season, his teammates confirmed that he will be a part of the tournament and will also be available. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter has been a regular feature in India’s squads across formats in Rishabh Pant’s absence but has rarely managed to seal a spot in the Playing XI.
