Former BCCI President and India captain Sourav Ganguly said that India opener Ishan Kishan’s time will come after the management kept their faith in another talented youngster – Shubmna Gill in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. However, many raised questions after captain Rohit Sharma said that Gill will get a fair run instead of Kishan in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka. Rohit also added that it was unfortunate for Kishan, who hit a double hundred last year, to miss out as well.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, along with Rohit Sharma, stitched a solid 143-run opening partnership before Virat Kohli’s hundred helped India to post 373/7 in Guwahati. Although Dasun Shanaka smashed a century, India beat Sri Lanka by 67 runs to go 1-0 in the series as well. However, Kishan hit 210 off 131 balls against Bangladesh on December 10 in Chattogram, becoming the youngest and fastest player to score a double ODI century.

“I am sure he (Kishan) will get his chance. His time will come,” Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.

Meanwhile, several former India cricketers, including Venkatesh Prasad, criticised the selection but Ganguly maintained a diplomatic point of view as well.

“I don’t know… It is difficult for me to say. In India, we have too many opinions, let (head coach) Rahul Dravid and (skipper) Rohit Sharma decide. People who actually play the game should actually decide who is the best,” Sourav Ganguly again said.

During the first ODI, Kohli hit his 45th ODI century and is now only four shy of Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI hundreds record. When asked who is better between the two, Ganguly said:  “It is a difficult question to answer.”

“Kohli is a fantastic player. He has played many such innings, 45 hundreds don’t happen like this. He is a special talent. There will be periods when he will not score, but he is a special player,” Sourav Ganguly concluded.
