Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) launched their IPL 2025 campaign with a commanding 44-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. However, the excitement of the win was tempered by a concerning sight — Ishan Kishan, the star of the night, hobbling off the field with a noticeable injury late in the game.

Batting first, SRH unleashed an onslaught, posting a staggering 286/6 — the second-highest total in IPL history, falling just one run short of their own record against RCB in 2024. The charge was led by Ishan Kishan, whose blistering 106 off just 47 balls left the RR bowlers shell-shocked. The left-hander smashed boundaries at will, forming crucial partnerships with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, who himself played a rapid 67 off 31 balls.

Chasing 287, RR showed a fight through a dynamic 100-run stand between Sanju Samson (66 off 37) and Dhruv Jurel (58 off 30). Their partnership kept the hopes alive, but the quick dismissals of both batters derailed the chase. Late cameos from Shimron Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey added some excitement, but the target remained out of reach as they finished on 242/6.

The match took a worrying turn for SRH when Kishan, fielding on the boundary in the 18th over, appeared to twist his ankle while attempting to save a boundary off Shubham Dubey’s shot. He immediately showed signs of distress and had to be assisted off the field, with physios attending to him on the sidelines. While the severity of the injury is still unclear, the visuals of him in visible pain raised concerns for both SRH fans and Indian cricket enthusiasts.

Amid Kishan’s brilliance, Harshal Patel’s precision in the death overs, claiming two crucial wickets, ensured SRH maintained control. The emphatic win showcased SRH’s batting firepower, but the injury cloud over their centurion adds a touch of uncertainty to their otherwise perfect start.
