Ishant Sharma Suffers Back Injury Ahead Of DC’s Opening Game

Ahead of their opening encounter of Delhi Capitals (DC) against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, Delhi has suffered a huge blow as they seasoned fast bowler, Ishant Sharma has suffered a back injury during a training session. Ishant, after sustaining the injury, is expected to be unavailable to featured in the playing XI for a considerable amount of time.

According to the reports of Cricbuzz, the fast bowler injured his back on the eve of their first game in Dubai during a practice session. He has had a history of injuries in the recent past. In January this year, he was sidelined first due to an ankle injury and a month later returned to play a Test against New Zealand before getting injured again, which had put a question mark over the future of the 32-year old.

After the injury in Ne Zealand, Ishant had gone through an extensive rehabilitation procedure at the NCA. In his absence,  Capitals have multiple like-for-like replacement options such as Harshal Patel, Mohit Sharma, and Avesh Khan.

Ishant was signed up by Delhi Capitals in 2018 for the salary of INR 1.1 crore. Considering his vast experience, Ishant was expected to lead their bowling attack in the UAE in IPL 2020. He also had an impressive outing in the last IPL edition, when he had scalped as many as 13 wickets at an economy of over 7. In 89 IPL games, the lanky pacer has scalped 72 wickets including a five-wicket haul.

Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the Capitals will be aiming to start their campaign on a positive note by defeating the Punjab franchise. After starting their campaign against KXIP on September 20th at Dubai, DC will be locking horns with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 25th September.

Apart from Ishant, Capitals’ pace bowling also has the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. While the spin department already comprises of veterans like Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra.
