Former India batter Wasim Jaffer slammed the Indian team management amid the second Test against Sri Lanka. The
match started on Sunday, August 23, at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo. Wasim Jaffer was unhappy with wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav being left out of the playing XI after just one game. He played the Galle Test but was replaced by all-rounder Saransh Jain in Colombo as well.

“It is not right to drop someone after just one match. As it is, in the first game there were three spinners, so someone had to be under-bowled, and that was Kuldeep. If he is unwell, then it’s a different thing, but if he has been dropped, this is not right for any player. India plays fewer Tests, and after this, they will play in New Zealand, where Kuldeep will not play anyway. It has been seen for a while that he is not being given consistent chances, and he is not in the favorites list. It is unfortunate. I feel very sad, and I hope he bounces back wherever he gets an opportunity. Maybe in the Ranji Trophy or the next IPL,” he said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“I do feel bad for Auqib Nabi. First of all, he should have been in the team directly and not as a replacement. But now that he is there, I hope he gets an opportunity. But I can understand that Prasidh has done well, and Siraj has been okay too. There is not a lot of help for fast bowlers either. I hope in the New Zealand series, Auqib gets a chance, and he should. Otherwise, this playing 11 was expected. If Kuldeep did not play, Saransh was the expected choice,” he further added.

However, Wasim Jaffer also opened up on the altercation between Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando on the opening day of the second Test.

“This is not acceptable, and it should not keep happening. Jaiswal’s performance has not been as expected of him. I feel somewhere there is some frustration also, but he needs to be careful that he is playing only this format and not playing consistently in ODIs and not there in the T20I side. So, when he gets the opportunity, it is important for him to make big scores. If you let these opportunities go, you are making things difficult for yourself. Unless the bowler has said something, we don’t know, otherwise, just walk away. But reacting this way is not acceptable, as this has happened the second or third time with him now,” Wasim Jaffer concluded.
