If there is one rule emerging for batters facing Jacob Duffy in T20 cricket, it is simple: hit him anywhere, but never back at him. The New Zealand seamer underlined that point yet again with a moment of sharp athleticism during the fourth T20I against India in Visakhapatnam, producing a stunning return catch to dismiss India captain Suryakumar Yadav.

India were already under pressure while chasing a daunting target of 216. The chase had begun on a sour note after in-form opener Abhishek Sharma departed for a first-ball duck, mistiming a lofted stroke off Matt Henry that was safely taken by Devon Conway at third man. With the scoreboard reading zero for one, the responsibility fell on Suryakumar Yadav to steady the innings and inject momentum.

That moment of release, however, never arrived. On the final ball of the second over, Duffy bowled a straight, skiddy delivery that cramped Suryakumar for room. The Indian skipper instinctively tried to push it back past the bowler, but Duffy reacted in a flash.

Bending low, almost down to his shoelaces, the 31-year-old plucked the ball inches off the turf to complete a sensational caught-and-bowled dismissal. Suryakumar walked back for just eight, leaving India reeling early in the chase.

The dismissal once again highlighted Duffy’s value in the shortest format. Recently signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the New Zealand pacer has built a reputation for thriving in high-pressure situations. Unlike many quicks who rely purely on pace, Duffy’s strength lies in subtle movement with the new ball and his ability to stay alert off his own bowling.
