James Anderson, the veteran English pacer, has been an invaluable asset to England cricket for over two decades, setting numerous records that will be hard to match. However, in the ongoing fifth Ashes Test at Kennington Oval, London, Anderson hasn’t been able to meet the lofty standards he has set for himself.

As England aimed to win the Ashes for the first time since 2015, Anderson’s performance was expected to play a crucial role. Unfortunately, in the first innings of the fifth Test, he managed only one wicket, and England now relies on him to step up in the second innings to level the series.

On his 41st birthday on Sunday, July 30, during Day 4 of the fifth Test, Anderson’s family was present at the ground to celebrate with him. His daughters, Lola Rose and Ruby Luxe, brought a special poster for their father. The heartwarming message on the poster, “Happy Birthday Dad,” melted the veteran’s heart and delighted fans who witnessed the sweet gesture.

In the previous fourth Test held in Manchester, England appeared to be in a dominant position to win, having dominated the first three days of the match. However, persistent rain disrupted their efforts, preventing them from pushing for victory in a crucial do-or-die encounter.

The fifth Test is showing early signs of a similar storyline as England again found themselves in a commanding position after Day 3. Unfortunately, rain once more intervened on Day 4, forcing an early Tea break and leaving the future of the match uncertain. The weather forecast for the rest of the day and Day 5 isn’t promising for English supporters.

Despite Australia’s solid start with both openers scoring half-centuries, they still face a daunting target of 384 runs. While Anderson’s form has not been ideal during the series, his experience and skills remain invaluable to the England team. As the match progresses, both teams will look to capitalize on the remaining opportunities to secure victory in the final Test and take home the Ashes.
