In the IPL 2024 final against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, Sunrisers Hyderabad were bowled out for a mere 113 runs. The KKR bowlers delivered a remarkable performance, with each of the six bowlers used by Shreyas Iyer managing to take wickets. Andre Russell was the standout, claiming three scalps, while Mitchell Starc contributed significantly with two wickets, including the crucial early dismissal of Abhishek Sharma in the first over.

Shreyas Iyer’s strategic captaincy was evident as every bowler he deployed made an impact. Mitchell Starc set the tone by taking out the dangerous Sharma early on, putting KKR in a commanding position. Vaibhav Arora followed suit by sending Travis Head back to the pavilion in his very first over, dealing another blow to SRH.

The dismissals continued steadily, and SRH struggled to recover, ultimately posting a modest total that should be manageable for the KKR batsmen. KKR’s spinners, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, also played pivotal roles, sharing three wickets between them.

Sunil Narine, who came into the attack in the 16th over, managed to induce a false shot from SRH captain Pat Cummins, although Mitchell Starc, his Australian teammate, dropped a catch at long-on, much to the disbelief of Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor, who was in the stands.

However, Narine eventually dismissed Jaydev Unadkat in the 18th over. Interestingly, Cummins emerged as the top scorer for SRH, managing 24 runs before finally being caught by Mitchell Starc, who redeemed himself for the earlier drop. Cummins’ wicket marked the end of SRH’s innings, setting a new record for the lowest total in an IPL final.

KKR’s bowlers shared the ten wickets amongst themselves, showcasing a cohesive and disciplined performance. Now, the onus is on the KKR batsmen to chase down the target of 114 runs. If successful, they will secure their third IPL title, cementing their dominance in the tournament. With such a low target, the KKR batsmen are expected to chase it down with relative ease, bringing the trophy home to Kolkata once again.
