Jasprit Bumrah

In the third ODI between Sri Lanka and India, Jasprit Bumrah continued from where he left off in the last match. With bowling figures of 10-2-43-4, Bumrah registered his third ODI four-wicket haul in the last match. Chamara Kapugedera, who was captaining Sri Lanka for the first time in ODI cricket today, won the toss and chose to bat.

Sri Lanka’s woes continued as they lost their wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella (13) in the fourth over to Bumrah. Continuing with his good form, Bumrah dismissed Kusal Mendis (1) as he edged a delivery to a flying Rohit Sharma at second slip in the eighth over.

Just when comeback man Lahiru Thirimanne (80) was looking dangerous, Bumrah ended his spirited knock in the 40th over. He is known as someone who bowls the best during the slog overs. He proved it yet again today with wickets of Akila Dananajaya (2) and Milinda Sriwardana (29) in the 46th and 48th over respectively.

Bumrah ended with figures of 10-2-27-5, his best ever in ODI cricket. In 2017, leaving the last two matches (including this one), he had picked 11 wickets in nine matches at an average of 41.81 and an economy rate of 5.94. Such numbers were somewhere a worry for someone India has relied heavily in limited-overs since his debut. Kohli and the team management would be glad with Bumrah back amongst the wickets.
