Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah played a pivotal role in India’s commanding 295-run victory over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Perth. Leading the side in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who was away for familial reasons, Bumrah delivered a stellar performance with the ball.
Jasprit Bumrah claimed a five-wicket haul in the first innings and followed it up with three crucial wickets in the second, cementing India’s 1-0 lead in the series. India’s next challenge will be the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide, scheduled to start on December 6. With a few days in hand before the match, players have the opportunity to recover, explore Adelaide, and spend quality time with loved ones.

His first experience leading the side came in the rescheduled fifth Test against England in 2021, a match India lost. However, his composed leadership in Perth earned accolades. Veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara expressed confidence in Bumrah’s ability to lead, describing him as a “team’s man” and a potential future captain.

“He’s shown his capability in difficult circumstances, like during the tough series at home and now in Australia. To deliver such a performance in the opening Test of an overseas series is remarkable,” Pujara said in an interview with ESPNcricinfo. “Bumrah never focuses solely on himself; he talks about the team, other players, and gives valuable advice. That selflessness makes him a true leader.”
India will hope Bumrah continues to inspire the team as they aim to extend their series lead in the challenging day-night Test at Adelaide.
