Jasprit Bumrah has been the standout performer for India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. His remarkable effort in the first Test at Perth, where India secured a commanding 295-run victory, set the tone for the series. However, the team stumbled in Adelaide during the second Test, suffering a 10-wicket loss under the lights of the pink-ball game.

Speaking after the third day of the third Test at the Gabba, Jasprit Bumrah defended the underperforming Indian team and addressed the growing scrutiny. He dismissed concerns about added pressure on his shoulders, stating that as a senior player in a transitional team, it is his “job” to take on extra responsibility.

Despite his exceptional 6/76 effort with the ball, India allowed Australia to post a daunting first-innings total of 445. The visitors then found themselves in deep trouble at 51/4 by the close of a rain-hit Day 3, with questions swirling about their batting technique and overall strategy.

Jasprit Bumrah refused to single out individuals or criticize his teammates. “As a team, we don’t point fingers at each other. We avoid the mindset of saying, ‘You should do this, or you should do that.’ We stick together and focus on collective improvement,” he said during the post-stumps media interaction.

The star pacer acknowledged the challenges faced by India’s young bowling unit, which includes debutants Nitish Kumar Reddy, Akash Deep, and Harshit Rana, none of whom had prior experience in Australian conditions.

“This is a transition phase for us as a team. Playing in Australia is never easy; the conditions are very different from what we are used to. The Gabba wicket, in particular, has its unique challenges,” Jasprit Bumrah explained.

Leading the series’ bowling charts with 18 wickets, Bumrah emphasized his role as a mentor. “Having played a bit more than the others, it’s my responsibility to guide them. We are working hard to adapt, and I’m trying to help them learn as we go,” he concluded.
