The premier Indian fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah reckons that it would be an “honor” for him to lead the Indian Test team if given a chance. At the same, he also acknowledges that he is ready to contribute in whatever the situation demands regardless of the post. Bumrah is one of the players who have been touted to replace Virat Kohli as India’s Test captain, although batsmen KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma have emerged as the frontrunners.

During a recent media interaction, as per the quotes in India Today, Jasprit Bumrah said, “For me, I am ready to contribute in whichever manner I can, be it in the post or otherwise. If given the opportunity it’s an honor, but if not then also I will try to do whatever is required to the best of my ability. My focus is to do well.”

It was earlier reported that the selectors have had a discussion with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma for the position. While Rohit is India’s captain in limited-overs and deputy skipper in Tests, Rahul was vice-captain in India’s Test series in South Africa after Rohit was injured and couldn’t take part in the series.

KL Rahul led the team in the second Test as Kohli was ruled out with a back spasm and is now set to lead the team in the upcoming ODIs against South Africa as Rohit Shamra missed the series due to his hamstring injury.

Jasprit Bumrah made his Test debut under Kohli and he has now become one of the most lethal fast bowlers in the longest format of the game. Kohli stepping down from Test captaincy brought to an end the 33-year-old’s tenure as India’s captain across formats, having earlier resigned as T20I skipper and being sacked as the ODI skipper.

The premier Indian pacer said that he and the rest of the players who played most of their international careers are ready to adapt to the change.
