India’s ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has taken a huge stride towards his comeback, as seen in the recent Instagram post titled, “Progress every day ????.” The clip posted on February 27 indicates that Bumrah is again at the nets practising his spot-bowling. Though there wasn’t his trademark intensity during the run-up, the vision of him back holding the ball in hand has caused Indian cricket lovers to have an inkling about his comeback.

Bumrah’s absence has been acutely felt since he hurt his lower back during the Sydney Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The injury made him miss the pivotal final innings of the series and, more importantly, the Champions Trophy campaign of India.

His omission was a huge setback, considering that he was in scorching form in Australia, where he finished as the series’ leading wicket-taker, taking 32 wickets in nine innings at a mind-boggling average of 13.06. His workload became a huge point of contention, with many feeling that the incessant bowling workload on him contributed to the injury.

Despite losing their spearhead, India has been able to sail through the group phase of the Champions Trophy 2025. Led by Rohit Sharma, they achieved consecutive victories, beating Bangladesh and Pakistan by a comfortable six wickets apiece. With their semifinal position already in hand, India is now playing against New Zealand on March 2 in their last group-stage match.

With increasing expectations, a few Indian cricket fans are speculating over a possible Bumrah comeback if India makes it to the final. But with the BCCI and team management taking a conservative route, they won’t push him back in a hurry. For now, all that can be hoped for is that the pacer keeps progressing steadily towards complete fitness.
