The premier Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia owing to a back injury. Bumrah, who suffered a back injury, was rested for the opening T20I against South Africa on Wednesday. He is likely to miss the marquee event in October as he has sustained a back fracture. The medical team conducted scans and suggested no cricket for a minimum of 6 months.
According to recent reports in India Today, either Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar will be added to the squad. Ahead of the first T20I between India and South Africa, the BCCI stated that “Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first T20I”.

Jasprit Bumrah returned to international cricket during the T20I series against Australia after the tour of England. The India pacer missed the opening game in Mohali as a precaution and featured in the next two games. On his return, he took a wicket against Australia in Nagpur before getting hammered in the third match in Hyderabad.

Bumrah, who had also missed the Asia Cup due to his back problem, and was training at the National Cricket Academy, played the last two T20Is against Australia.
Talking about the injury, an anonymous BCCI official had said, “Bumrah is not going to play the World T20 for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months.”

India’s death bowling has been an issue and skipper, Rohit Sharma himself has pointed it out. Talking about the same, a BCCI official said, “Losing Bumrah and Jadeja will be huge for India. We didn’t expect that things will pan out as they have. He was rested for the Asia Cup precisely to manage his workload management. Now it remains a question if he was even fit enough to play the Australia series.”

First Jadeja, now Bumrah. Has India toured Australia in the past two years without key players and still done well?

Would personally want India to take a batting depth heavy approach for the World T20 instead of trying to fill in the void of an all phase bowler like Bumrah. There isn't a single bowler at the moment who's in the reckoning who can fill this void.
Shami isn't the answer.

Mohd Siraj or Mohd Shami – either of the two to replace Jasprit Bumrah, who is all but out of the T20 World Cup.
