India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah was overjoyed after receiving a shout-out from Chris Martin, the lead singer of the globally renowned band Coldplay, during their concert in Mumbai. The unexpected mention came mid-performance when Martin humorously stopped the act to talk about Bumrah. He quipped that the Indian speedster was waiting backstage, ready to play with the band, and joked about needing to wrap up the show quickly to make way for him.

“Hold on, we have to finish the show because Jasprit Bumrah wants to come and play backstage,” Martin said in a now-viral video from the concert. “He says he needs to bowl at me now. We’ll ask him to wait 15 minutes,” he added, leaving the crowd in splits.

Bumrah, a celebrated figure in Indian cricket, didn’t miss the gesture. He expressed his gratitude to Martin and Coldplay on his social media, sharing his excitement with fans. “This made me smile! Incredible vibe at the @coldplay concert in Mumbai (from what I’ve seen here) and even more special to be mentioned,” Bumrah wrote on his ‘X’ handle.

On the cricketing front, Bumrah’s journey has been challenging in recent months. The pacer last featured in the Sydney Test against Australia, where he refrained from bowling on the final day due to back spasms. Since then, he has been undergoing rehabilitation and seeking medical consultation to recover fully.

Amid uncertainties surrounding his fitness, Bumrah was included in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the situation during a press conference announcing the squad. “We’ll likely have more updates on his fitness in the next week or so. He’s been advised to offload bowling for five weeks, which should conclude by early February,” Agarkar explained.

Bumrah’s inclusion signals optimism, but his full recovery remains crucial for India’s campaign in the marquee event. Meanwhile, fans were delighted to see their favorite bowler being recognized by Coldplay, adding a unique and heartwarming moment to Bumrah’s ongoing journey.
