Jasprit Bumrah’s extraordinary performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, where he earned the Player of the Tournament award, has highlighted his incredible match-winning abilities. Following India’s triumphant campaign, journalist Deepal Trivedi, who was Bumrah’s neighbour during his childhood, shared poignant stories from the cricketer’s early years.
These stories quickly gained traction on social media, prompting Bumrah to open up about the challenges he faced growing up. The right-arm pacer recently revealed that his life took a drastic turn when his father passed away while he was in the second grade. Trivedi recounted that during this difficult period, young Jasprit and his sister, Juhika, came under her care as their mother, Daljit Bumrah, hustled to make ends meet.
Financial struggles were a significant concern, with even basic necessities like biscuits being a luxury. While Bumrah refrained from delving into the specifics, he acknowledged the financial difficulties his family faced.

He added, “We became very close as a family because we went through a lot of ups and downs. But since then, that bond has become stronger and stronger. And that has only grown over the years.”
Trivedi, in her detailed post, also recalled how the young Ahmedabad pacer desperately needed a windcheater, which she managed to provide by curbing her own needs. She highlighted how Bumrah’s mother worked over 16 hours a day to support her children’s dreams. Juhika, who now works in the makeup industry, assists Bumrah with his appearance during shoots. Bumrah emphasized that despite their success, they strive to remain grounded.

“Obviously, she (Bumrah’s sister) is now in the makeup industry. She now does my makeup when we do shoots. But we, as a family, are very close as we discuss good days and bad days. We don’t want to change ourselves too much because we have seen ups and downs both,” Jasprit Bumrah concluded.
This heartwarming story of resilience and familial bond underscores the humble beginnings of one of cricket’s most celebrated players and his unwavering connection to his roots.
