Jasprit Bumrah’s journey from a raw, young pacer to one of world cricket’s most feared fast bowlers is nothing short of inspiring. The Mumbai Indians spearhead, who debuted in the IPL back in 2013, fondly recalls the nerves and excitement of sharing the dressing room with legends like Sachin Tendulkar during his first season.

At just 19, the Ahmedabad-born quick made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and immediately made an impact, dismissing Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, and none other than Virat Kohli to finish with figures of 3/32. Reflecting on that moment, Bumrah recently shared how intimidating it was to step into a dressing room filled with cricketing icons.
“When I came here, Sachin Tendulkar was still playing. It was his last year. As a 19-year-old, coming into this atmosphere and seeing legends all around—it was overwhelming,” Jasprit Bumrah said during a promotional event, as quoted by Sportstar.

What helped him ease into the challenge, though, was a piece of priceless advice from the Master Blaster himself. “Before my first game, Sachin sir told me, ‘Don’t look at the individual. Bowl to the batsman, not to the name.’ That changed everything for me,” Bumrah revealed. The wisdom clearly worked—he never looked back.

Now in his 12th IPL season, Bumrah continues to lead Mumbai’s bowling attack with distinction. The 2025 season didn’t begin ideally for MI, as they dropped four of their first five matches. However, they’ve since bounced back with six consecutive wins, gaining serious momentum at the business end of the tournament.
“We started slow, but it’s all about peaking at the right time,” Jasprit Bumrah remarked. “The good thing is, we’re not relying on one individual. Everyone’s contributing.”
