The premier Indian fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah well on to reveal that his performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) weren’t the reason behind his national selection. He stressed on the fact that his stats in domestic cricket helped in his promotion to the top level, Bumrah said he risen in the ranks in the senior team after performing consistently in the home circuit.
Bumrah also recalled that during the initial days of his career, people doubted his abilities due to his unorthodox bowling action. He spoke about the challenges during an Instagram live session with former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and also stressed on the importance of Test cricket.

Talking to Yuvraj, Jasprit said, “Bowlers come up to me and say ODI, T20 is okay. But they forget, Tests make you a complete cricketer. That I made it to the Indian team by my performances in the IPL is a myth. 2013 is when I came into the IPL (for Mumbai Indians) than 2013, 2014, 2015 I was not playing regularly. I did well in Vijay Hazare and in the domestic circuit then I came into the Indian team in 2016.”
Bumrah witnessed a significant in his international career quite soon despite the fact that many thought that he would be the “last person to play for India”.
When Yuvraj asked Bumrah to talk about his bowling action, the pacer replied: “Many people told me that I won’t play for long, there was an expectation that the last person to play for the country would be me. They told me that I would just play the Ranji Trophy. But I kept on improving and I persisted with my action”.
During the session, Yuvraj also said that he had predicted that Bumrah has it in him to become the number one bowler in the world. He recalled, “Three years back I had predicted that you would become the number one bowler in the world.”

Jasprit Bumrah is currently ranked as the number two bowler in the ICC ODI rankings and he is standing at the 7th position in the Test rankings. He is now regarded as one of the best fast bowlers in the business with 104 wickets under his belt in 64 ODIs and 68 scalps in 14 Test matches.
