Jasprit Bumrah Suffers An Ankle Injury In The Centurion Test

The Indian bowlers have the team a brilliant start against South Africa on day 3 of the opening Test of the three-match series in Centurion. The fiery Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah drew the first blood by removing Proteas’s Test skipper, Dean Elgar ion the first over itself. Mohammed Shami came into the act after the lunch break to send back Keegan Peterson and Aiden Markram in quick succession.

However, there was a moment of distress for the visiting team as Jasprit Bumrah injured his right ankle in a freakish accident. Bumrah twisted his ankle badly while completing his follow-through, after delivering the fifth ball of the 11th over of the South African first innings.

The Indian seamer was seen grimacing in pain immediately after the incident and as a result, Jasprit Bumrah was seen leaving the field along with the physio in what seemed like a precautionary measure. Here is the video of the incident:

Giving an update on the injury of Jasprit Bumrah, BCCI tweeted, “Update: Jasprit Bumrah has suffered a right ankle sprain while bowling in the first innings. The medical team is monitoring him at the moment. Shreyas Iyer is on the field as his substitute.”

Replays showed how freakish the accident was and the extent to which JaspritBumrah’s right ankle was twisted. While India has a strong pace battery, Bumrah is the premier fast bowler, and any major injury to him so early on the tour will be a huge setback for Virat Kohli and his team.

Meanwhile, the Indian fast bowlers,  continued to trouble the South Africans as Shami returned to send back Aiden Markram, while Mohammed Siraj dismissed Rassie Van der Dussen, with the hosts reduced to 32/4. Earlier, India was bowled out for 327, after resuming on 272/3. The batting collapse was triggered by Lungi Ngidi (6/71) and Kagiso Rabada (3/72)
