Team India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, faces serious doubts about his participation in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, with the bowler currently on rest at home. Bumrah, who was a standout performer in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, taking 32 wickets, returned home last week after a long tour to Australia.

According to a Times of India report, Hasprit Bumrah has been advised to take complete bed rest to allow his muscles to recover and for the swelling to subside. It is unlikely that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will rush his recovery, given the importance of his long-term fitness.

The report also mentioned that Bumrah will have to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, but the exact date for his check-in remains uncertain. “Bumrah could go to the CoE next week, but there is no fixed date as of now. He’s been advised bed rest at home for now,” a source informed TOI. “Once the swelling reduces, further action will be decided.”

Although initial reports suggested a simple case of swelling, concerns have grown that Bumrah may be out for a longer period. Experts believe that the injury could be more serious, and the “stakeholders” are keen to avoid exacerbating the problem. “Bed rest doesn’t sound good. I hope it’s not a disc bulge or a high-grade muscle swelling. The approach with him should be to protect him carefully and preserve his talent,” the report added.

Ramji Srinivasan, former India strength and conditioning coach, elaborated on the situation, stating, “Swelling occurs if there’s a tear due to edema, and the severity of the injury depends on the grade of the tear and how it’s managed medically.”
