Jasprit Bumrah delivered another masterclass in pace bowling on Day 2 of the third Test against England at Lord’s, claiming five wickets and etching his name onto the famous Lord’s honours board. But it wasn’t just his performance that stole the show — Bumrah also brought unexpected humour to the post-match press conference.

As Bumrah was sharing his thoughts on handling pressure and the demands of international cricket, a journalist’s phone unexpectedly rang mid-question. Without missing a beat, Bumrah smiled and quipped, “Somebody’s wife is calling… but I will not pick it up,” triggering laughter across the media room. He added playfully, “I’ve left it that way,” before laughing along and asking, “I forgot the question now!”

The moment captured Bumrah’s calm, witty side — a quality that mirrors his on-field composure. Before the interruption, he was reflecting on the relentless expectations in international cricket. “Till the time I am wearing this jersey, there will be judgment… even when Sachin sir played 200 Tests, he was still judged,” he had said.

Earlier in the day, Bumrah had ripped through England’s middle order, dismissing Harry Brook, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes, finishing with 5/74 in 27 overs. It was a performance that not only brought India back into the contest but also gave Bumrah personal satisfaction. He recalled the 2021 Lord’s Test as a career highlight, particularly the unbeaten 89-run partnership he shared with Mohammed Shami.
“When Shami bhai and I won the match with the bat, that will always be special,” Jasprit Bumrah said. “Now, getting on the honours board… when my son grows up, I’ll tell him my name is there.”

Bumrah is married to sports anchor Sanjana Ganesan, and the couple welcomed their son, Angad, in September 2023. Despite their busy careers, they remain each other’s pillars of strength. As Day 2 closed, India reached 145/3 in their first innings, still trailing by 242. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant were at the crease. With Bumrah expected to rest on Day 3, the stage is set for India’s batters to seize the momentum in what’s shaping up to be a riveting Test match.
