ICC chairman Jay Shah met IOC president Kirsty Coventry in Switzerland to discuss cricket’s much-anticipated return to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, marking another milestone in the sport’s global expansion. The meeting took place during an IOC session, during which the two leaders reviewed progress and outlined the roadmap for cricket’s inclusion in the Games.

Cricket was officially approved for LA28 last year, confirming its comeback after 128 years. The sport last appeared at the 1900 Paris Olympics, when Great Britain clinched gold in a one-off match against France.

Jay Shah, who has been a key figure in driving cricket’s Olympic vision, also attended the IOC Presidential elections in Greece earlier this year, where Coventry made history as the first woman and first African president of the IOC.
The 2028 Olympic cricket event will feature six teams in each men’s and women’s T20 format, with 90 athlete quotas per gender, allowing each nation to field a 15-member squad. The T20 competitions will be held from July 12 to 29, 2028, at the Fairgrounds in Pomona, about 50 km from downtown Los Angeles. The women’s final is scheduled for July 20, while the men’s gold medal match will take place on July 29.
