With just 50 days left for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, the anticipation is soaring. ICC Chairman Jay Shah has called the upcoming tournament a defining moment for women’s cricket, highlighting its role in expanding the sport’s global reach and inspiring the next generation.

In a special panel discussion held in Mumbai, Shah was joined by some of cricket’s most influential voices—former India captain Mithali Raj, ex-India allrounder Yuvraj Singh, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, star batter Jemimah Rodrigues, and ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta—all sharing insights on the competition’s impact and potential.
“This will be the biggest women’s cricket event in history, and it all kicks off on September 30,” Jay Shah posted on social media. He emphasised that hosting the World Cup in India is a huge opportunity to elevate women’s cricket to new heights, while reaffirming the ICC’s commitment to fresh ideas and sustained growth for the women’s game.

Jay Shah added, “Preparations are in full swing, and excitement is building rapidly. I wish all the teams the very best as they prepare for this challenge. I’m confident they’ll leave India and Sri Lanka with unforgettable memories.”
Running from September 30 to November 2, the tournament will feature eight top sides—Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka—competing in a round-robin format. The top four teams will progress to the semi-finals, leading to a blockbuster finale.

This World Cup is also historic—it’s the first major women’s global cricket event in the subcontinent since India hosted the 2016 Women’s T20 World Cup, and it marks the fourth time India will host the Women’s ODI World Cup after 1978, 1997, and 2013.

To build momentum, the ICC has launched an extensive Trophy Tour starting this week. The tour will cover all host cities, as well as New Delhi and Mumbai, making stops at iconic landmarks and engaging fans through a dedicated Instagram channel. As part of a legacy initiative, the trophy will visit schools across host cities, giving select students the once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness live World Cup action.
With the countdown underway, the stage is set for a tournament that promises thrilling cricket, passionate crowds, and a significant boost for the women’s game worldwide.
