Saurashtra skipper Jaydev Unadkat provided a brilliant start in the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy semi-final against Karnataka. In the very first hour of the game, Unadkat dismissed the top three Karnataka batsmen and provided a perfect start for the team.

After winning the toss, Karnataka captain decided to bat first on lively green track M.Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru). Starting with the new ball in hand, the left-arm pacer and Saurashtra skipper Jaydev Unadkat provided a lethal start for his team.

On the third ball of the game, Unadkat dismissed the opener Ravikumar Samarth (0) while Karnataka was yet to open their scoreboard. The right-handed batsman was trapped for lbw by Unadkat who delivered that from over the wicket.

In the seventh over, the Saurashtra skipper dismissed the no.3 right-handed batsman Krishnamurthy Siddharth (12 runs), the leading run-scorer for Karnataka in this Ranji Trophy season. Once again, Unadkat took the wicket through an lbw dismissal but this time he delivered the ball from round the wicket.

Another Karnataka opener Mayank Agarwal failed to survive for a long time as he was dismissed at next during the 11th over. Bowling from over the wicket, Unadkat’s little outswinger found an edge from Agarwal’s bat and it safely carried to the wicketkeeper Snell Patel who made no mistake to grab that opportunity. Soon on that morning session, Karnataka was struggling on 19/3.

The 20-year-old left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya provided another crucial support by picking up his first wicket in this game by dismissing the no.4 batsman Karun Nair for just 9 runs in the 15th over.

Struggling on 30/4 after Nair’s dismissal, skipper Manish Pandey and the no.6 batsman Shreyas Gopal provided a crucial partnership of 106 runs for the fifth wicket to make a fight back. After scoring 62 runs, the Karnataka skipper Pandey was bowled by Unadkat who claimed his fourth wicket in this innings.

Since then, Gopal and the wicketkeeper-batsman Srinivas Sharath have taken the responsibilities to carry the innings for a good first innings total. At the tea of the day one, Karnataka was battling on 200/5.
